Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) India Job Report
Forward Deployed Engineers work close to a customer’s problem: they understand the workflow, build or connect the solution, and help get it into use. But an FDE job title does not tell you which kind of engineering the employer needs.
This report examines 30 advertised FDE and FDE leadership roles from 19 employers, reviewed on 27 October 2026. The advertisements include seven named metro markets. They offer a picture of the roles in this sample; they are not a count of every FDE vacancy in India.
FDE hiring favours delivery experience
17 of the 30 advertisements ask for at least five years of experience. Three set a starting requirement below three years. Early-career routes exist, although experienced hiring is more prominent in this set of roles.
Sixteen roles include Bengaluru, across 12 employers. Hyderabad appears in eight roles across five employers. Four advertisements explicitly offer remote work, but the permitted location and working hours still matter.
A strong route into the field is to apply an existing engineering skill to a real business workflow, then show how you built, deployed and improved the solution.
Which employers appeared in the report?
The sample spans enterprise platforms, services firms and specialist AI companies. It includes individual contributors and FDE leaders. Each figure below counts advertised requisitions in this report, not confirmed hires.

Where are the roles based?
Bengaluru has the widest choice in this sample, followed by Hyderabad. One advertisement can name more than one city, so the location figures overlap. Delhi NCR includes Noida and Gurugram; nationwide remote roles and advertisements without a specified city are not assigned to a city.
Bengaluru roles in the sample cover AI applications, data platforms, customer integration and AI network infrastructure. Hyderabad examples include roles from Notion, Arcesium and Accenture. An “India” listing may still name a city or require office attendance.
How much experience do employers ask for?
The chart groups each advertisement by its stated entry threshold. When an advertisement gives a range, the lower end determines the group; the upper end is not treated as a cap. Four advertisements give no numeric threshold.
The report identified three lower-threshold examples: Peakflo’s 0.5–2-year role sought machine-learning, Python and production-model exposure; Abacus Insights listed 2–4 years across software, SRE, support or data operations; and an Accenture GenAI advertisement asked for 2+ years and 15 years of full-time education. At the other end, a Databricks staff role specified 15+ years.
These examples are useful starting points for understanding the range. Read each advertisement’s own requirements before deciding whether it fits your background.
What do FDEs actually do?
The advertisements suggest four overlapping delivery tracks. The right portfolio depends on the problem you want to solve.
Production AI
Build agents and retrieval systems, then test, deploy and operate them. A useful project shows a working workflow, tests and monitoring.
Examples in the report: Turing and Arcesium.Systems integration
Connect enterprise tools through APIs, webhooks and data transformations. Show the integration, deployment and how the system handles failure.
Examples: DevRev and Telnyx.Reliability and infrastructure
Diagnose incidents, operate platforms and address infrastructure constraints. Show telemetry, root-cause analysis and recovery.
Examples: Abacus Insights, Upscale and Ciroos.Customer adoption
Configure agents, validate outcomes and improve adoption. Show how you discovered the problem, defined acceptance criteria and assessed use.

These tracks can overlap within one role. The common thread is ownership of implementation; the depth of engineering depends on the system being delivered.
Required and preferred qualifications are different
Employers do not all set the same requirements. In the advertisements studied, a technical degree was compulsory in some cases, accepted as an equivalent in others, or listed as an advantage.

Look closely at the wording. A preferred skill may strengthen an application, while a requirement is part of the employer’s stated screening criteria. These examples describe particular advertisements, not universal requirements for every FDE role.
Remote, hybrid and customer presence
Of the 30 advertisements, four explicitly describe remote work, eight hybrid and four on-site. Fourteen do not state an arrangement. “Not stated” does not tell us whether a role is office-only.
Remote does not always mean any location or any hours. The Outreach advertisement described remote work based in Hyderabad with US working hours. Level AI described remote work in India with Eastern Time hours. Turing and HackerRank specified at least three office days per week in Bengaluru.
Customer travel is a separate condition. DevRev advertisements specified up to 30% or 80% travel, while Avaamo specified up to 40–50% travel to the US and Europe. Check the current terms of the individual role before applying.

Backend and data engineers
Explore integration and production AI. Build a service that connects to real APIs, handles data reliably, has tests and can be deployed.
SRE and platform engineers
Explore reliability and AI infrastructure. Demonstrate incident diagnosis, monitoring, recovery and operation under real constraints.
Implementation professionals
Explore customer AI deployment. Show a discovery brief, working integration, acceptance criteria and evidence that users can adopt the solution.
In the sample, Peakflo asked shortlisted candidates for a coding-agent session transcript. A GlobalLogic technical leadership role expected review of AI-generated code for correctness and security. A useful portfolio lets an employer see your judgment, integration work and how the system operates.
